The Nenana Wellness Coalition is an alliance of representatives from various agencies, local schools, business and community members, that meets weekly to help implement plans for improving the wellness and quality of life in Nenana Alaska.
WELCOME and READING OF MISSION STATEMENT: By this week’s chairperson:
Virginia read the mission statement. There was 10 people present.
SPIRITUAL MOMENT: was led by Amie Verhaegen said a prayer.
PRESENTATION OF AGENDA AND CALL FOR MODIFICATIONS:
There were no planned presentations this meeting.
MINUTES: The minutes generated last week were posted at the WIN link at www.railbelt.org and submitted electronically to the WIN e-list.
INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS: There were no guests this week. We has representation from the School: Superintendent Manning, City: Mayor Josh Verhaegen, Nenana Tribe: Virginia Young, Senior Center: Bonnie Reed, Railbelt: Rose Allen, Public Health Nurse Dennette Marks

Virginia– Intergenerational digital story Steering Committee met at the school on Monday Dec. 10. They are preparing for the next intergenerational meetings between Nenana students and community adults and elders. January 14 @ 3:30 at the school is the next Steering Committee meeting to make final preparations for viewing 2 short films and processing these with the students to identify strengths and resiliencies they observed. The tentative schedule is January 25 @ 11:30 for a brief meeting then lunch with the students before film viewing and follow up.
Nenana Tourism Association will meet tonight at the parish hall @ 6:00 and will hold a Solstice Bonfire on Dec. 21 on the riverfront.
Superintendent Manning– The active shooter drill was held December 6. The whole community worked together for a successful first drill. There will be another drill in the spring not yet scheduled.
The students responded to the Earthquake as trained to in prior drills. The proud Superintendent took pictures of the students not realizing it was an actual Earthquake.
The school district is in negotiations with USDA and the City of Nenana on the lease for the Living Center.
Mayor Verhaegen: City council meeting tonight at 6:30 new council member Christy McMillian will be sworn in. All council meeting will be scheduled for the second Tuesday of the month per city ordinance. The Nenana tourism association will change their meetings to the first Tuesday of the month.
Suzanne the long time city clerk has resigned. The mayor appreciates her service to the City of Nenana.
Amie: the Annual Nativity Play is Friday Dec.14@ 7pm/ Christmas Church service will be December 23 at 1:00pm
Public Health Nurse: Dennette will be holding regular clinic hours at the Mary Demientieff clinic call clinic for hours. She is willing to work with the community for any special needs that might come up vaccines for children etc. She reported there is an outbreak of Gonorrhea in Nenana.
Bonnie: Winter Concert for school is tomorrow Dec 12 at 6:00, community lunch at school Dec 18 at 11:30, and last day of school for Winter break is Thursday Dec 20.
Rose Allen: There will be no WIN meetings until January 8th next week will be the community lunch and the 2 Tuesdays after are holidays. Rose wanted to thank Suzanne for her service to the community and for always being available to Railbelt as well. She also participated in the active shooter drill and complemented the school on the efficiency the drill was prepared and carried out.
Tim Horn: Still on the mend from surgery.
