Nenana Wellness Coalition

The Nenana Wellness Coalition is an alliance of representatives from various organizations, government agencies, community groups and individuals that meets weekly to discuss, evaluate, coordinate, consolidate, celebrate, masticate and help implement plans for improving the wellness and quality of life in Nenana Alaska.
This week had Jens Jacobsen, Bonnie Reed, Virginia Young, Magen Spencer and Laura Hokenson. We had chili, cheese with crackers, and assorted nuts.

Virginia: Children’s class is not happening tomorrow because Kid Kraft is tomorrow at the Parish hall right after school.
Teddy Charlie’s potlatch this evening around 6pm and the services is tomorrow at 2pm.
Magen: The City of Nenana Elections are October 2, 2018 at the Civic Center. A couple school board members seating are up for elections. All city council seats are up for reelections except for one.
Narcotics Anonymous meeting every Tuesday at 7pm at the Parish Hall.
Jens: School conferences are next week on Thursday and Friday. Thursday from 2:45 – 6pm and the Friday it’s at 2:45 – 3:45pm. September 26 a school safety meeting going over the new crisis plan and having people from the Clear Air Force Base, Nenana Fire Department and an Alaskan State Trooper at 6pm in the pit at the school. November 27, 2018 will we the practice for the crisis plan and school shooting. October 8, 2018 Team Hollywood from 3pm -7pm, potentially looking at a basketball tournament, but not sure the details, yet.
Sergeant Joe Minor has a lot of experience working with youth and drugs and alcohol. He wants to meet with the kids and is actively involved with education and prevention.
There are 6 people in this district who are going to the wellness and safety training on September 18 and 19. It’s about being well informed on trauma. There are a couple people from cyber lynx, the school board and direct staff.
Tanana Chiefs Conference is willing to come down to Nenana and help promote a wellness week within the community.
Bonnie: September 12, 2018 is the free store at 5pm -8pm. Please bring any items you don’t want and set it up by 4:30. September 13, the City Council meet in the multi-purpose room at 6:30pm. The Nenana Native Council meets at September 19, 2018 at 6:30pm. September 20, 2018 the Fairbanks Orchestra is playing at the school gym starting at 10am. September 22, 2018 is the first Coffee House of the year. Jens Jacobsen is speaking on September 25, 2018 doing a presentation for the WIN.
Laura: Dancing in the Streets is happening September 21, 2018 at 5pm at the Civic Center. There will be food provided, glow sticks and of course, DANCING!
