There were 6 coalition members in attendance: Bonnie Reed, Laura Hokenson, Rosemary Allen, Ron Gherman, Virginia Young, and Mary Alexander
SPIRITUAL MOMENT: Lead by Virginia Young
PRESENTATION OF AGENDA AND CALL FOR MODIFICATIONS: Nothing Added
MINUTES: The minutes generated last week were posted at the WIN link at www.railbelt.org and submitted electronically to the WIN e-list.
INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS: Andrea Dubenezic, Public Health
SPEAKERS/TOPICS: Topic Added: What do we want to make “Well” in Nenana? – There was discussion on the current state of affairs at the City of Nenana. The question was posed as to what a group of concerned citizens could do to help the with the Cities situation. Ideas of how to increase revenues were talked about; including raising taxes and looking at debts owed; but bigger question was what could be one thing we could focus on as a group that would be helpful. Raising awareness of what it actually costs to run the city, what revenues are actually collected, what benefits we get from living in the city and what quality of life do we want? It was mentioned that anyone could go in and talk to Susan or the Mayor and that would be better than believing possible rumors, and also the first thing to find out would probably be what the actual numbers were if we wanted to focuses on some way to help; and to ask the Mayor what would be beneficial.
|Topic Added: Envisioning Wellness – Christine Babcock and Danielle Clark will be at WIN meeting May 1st to introduce themselves and their roles with the Nenana Native Council. Andrea the public nurse would like to do another envisioning wellness presentation and will email with a date that works for her. Continued discussion on viewing some or all of the movies showed to the high schoolers for the Digital Story Telling.|
|WELLNESS THOUGHT: “If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant.”
– Anne Bradstreet
Bonnie Reed: April 30th is the Ice Watch Picnic
Andrea Dubenezic: Enjoyed Health Fair; enjoys the community atmosphere. And reminder that it’s still flu season – hospital in Fairbanks still getting patients with the flu. Could be a long season, well into summer and possible wave of flu with the tourist. In Alaska the flu seems to be a better matched to the vaccine than that in the lower 48.
Rosemary Allen: CARF accreditation happening next week; not sure who from Railbelt will be able to attend WIN.
Mary Alexander: Cleaning floors at the Meda Lord Senior Housing
Ron Gherman: Astronaut at the school giving a presentation April 18th from 10-11am; Team Hollywood this Friday the 20th @ 6pm; and Expedition of Learning and Ice cream Social May 3rd. .
Virginia Young: None
Laura Hokenson: Dolly Frazier is doing a Zumba Strong class at the multipurpose room at the Rec on Wednesday @ 4pm.
