The Nenana Wellness Coalition is an alliance of representatives from various organizations, government agencies, community groups and individuals that meets weekly to discuss, evaluate, coordinate, consolidate, celebrate, masticate and help implement plans for improving the wellness and quality of life in Nenana
This week we had 5 participants, Ron Gherman, Bonnie Reed, Derek Ketzler, Virginia Young and Magen Spencer. We enjoyed homemade beef barley soup made by Rick and Carol Lingle, crackers with cheese and assorted nuts.

October 17, 2017 the Wellness collation will be meeting at the Fire Department Hall to do a CPR for friends and families training. The instructor will be Joe Forness. At the Fire Department we will also watch a narcan instructional video.

Senior bus leaves at 9am to have brunch at the Pump House. Seniors must bring their own money to pay for their meal. October 12 elections will be finalized. Alaska day is October 18, 2017, the city office will be closed. October 22, 2017 at 2pm the Bahia community will be at the Recreational Center Conference room for a potluck and celebration of the Founder of Bahia to celebrate his birthday. All community members are encouraged to participate. October 25, 2017 is the fall music concert at 6:30pm. October 31, 2017 is the Halloween carnival at the school gym.
Derek: Post office will be closed Monday, October 9, 2017 for Indigenous People day. School is closed Friday, October 6, 2017 for in-service day for both Head start and the big school. The Nenana Native Council will have their meeting October 23, 2017. The quarterly Nenana Native Pride and Safety meeting will be October 24, 2017 at 6:30 at the Tribal Hall.
Magen: The Tobacco Summit Training is October 9 – October 13 so Magen will be gone to Anchorage for that week. Brianna Ketzler, the Recreational Center Activities Director, printed out the monthly calendar to announce to WIN. October 11, 2017 is the Johnson O’Malley Parent Meeting at the Rec Center at 6:00pm. The JOM is needing a parent committee to help moderate funds for education. They are looking for as many parents who have Alaska Native Children who are school age. There will be a movie night at the Rec Center October 13, 2017, they will be watching Hocus Pocus at 5:30 – until the movie ends, and popcorn and drinks will be provided. Halloween craft party will be October 20, 2017 at 5:30pm. The crafts include creating your own ‘Day of the Dead’ mask, making candied/caramel apples, coloring Halloween pictures, PLUS MUCH MORE! Snacks and drinks will be provided. This is a family friendly event and all community members, big and small, are encouraged to participate. HALLOWEEN DANCE PARTY, October 27, 2017 for the high schoolers, October 27, 2017 starting at 6:00pm and ending at 8:00pm.
Ron: Ron gave an update on the Dave Talerico presentation. He said there was lots discussed and if anyone would like to listen to the audio of the presentation, they will be playing it at KUAM once it has been updated. Next week Junior High basketball and Volleyball are starting. Clear Airforce Base will be coming to school on Monday, October 9, 2017 to do fire education with the school. October 19, 2017 is the shake out. The students will have a chance to practice earthquake safety starting 10:19am. They will practice drop, cover and hold. The state principal conference is coming up and he will be traveling to Anchorage to participate. October 26, 2017 is the variety show in Healy. Nenana students are traveling to Healy to participate in the show, October 30, 2017 starting at 3:30 and ending at 10:00. Digital Storytelling meeting will be October 26, 2017.
Virginia: The Universal House of Justice sent a letter talking about Baha U’ Llah and the 200 anniversary coming up. If anyone is interested in reading the letter, please let Virginia know and she will pass on the information.
