The Nenana Wellness Coalition is an alliance of representatives from various organizations, government agencies, community groups and individuals that meets weekly to discuss, evaluate, coordinate, consolidate, celebrate, masticate and help implement plans for improving the wellness and quality of life in Nenana
This week we had 7 participants, Bonnie Reed, Laura Hokenson, Derek Ketzler, Magen Spencer, Michael Clifford, Shelly Reed, and Tim Horn. We enjoyed hamburger soup, crackers with cheese and assorted nuts.

Dancing in the Streets and the Health Challenge
Introduction of Guests: Shelly Reed
Dancing in the Streets will be held September 8, 2017. The event will start at 5:00pm, and dinner will start at 7:00pm. The event will be held at the Civic Center. September is recovery month and this event will be celebrating recovery. There will be food, door prizes and music. This is an all age’s event and everyone is encouraged to participate.
Amie and Kristy was hosting another health challenge and would like to give an opportunity for them to share what the health challenges are for the community. They will be presenting August 15, 2017 at WIN.
WELLNESS THOUGHT: “Today’s a beautiful day, and yesterday was a beautiful day, so that means it’s a great life.”
Michael: Last week was Michael’s birthday! He turned 7 on August 4 and celebrated his birthday at the fair the following day. Michael stated the “apple ride” was the best and recommends it to all fair attendees.
Shelly: Shelly is Bonnie Reed’s youngest daughter from the lower 48. She came to Alaska for a family reunion and is visiting her mother and sister in Nenana for a bit before leaving on Sunday.
Free day for the seniors at the fair on August 9, 2017. There will be a free lunch provided.
August 10, 2017 is the city assembly meeting at 6:30 in the Senior Center.
Nenana Native Council meeting is August 22, 2017 at the Nenana Native Council.
August 25, 2017 at Pioneer Park is the Stand Down event for Veterans. There will be a clothing drive for them starting at 7:30am, also, August 26, 2017 there will be a free screening for services done at Pioneer Park for veterans as well.
August 29, 2017 is the presentation done by Magen and Derek about the Adverse Childhood Experiences.
August 20, 2017 is the St. Marks backpack blessing at 11:00am.
Laura: Great vacation! Now just preparing for Dancing in the Streets.
Derek: Finishing up school these next couple weeks and then starting on the fall semester.
Tim: Musical Devotion will be August 9, 2017 at 7:00pm, this will take place in the Baha’i Center. They will be singing different hymns and potentially some other music as well.
Kids Kraft is August 9, 2017 at the Library.
The Nenana Book Club is Reading Thousand Splendid Suns by Khalid Hosseini. They will be meeting some time in the beginning of September.
Junior Youth Group is on hold until school starts.
Youth night is still every Tuesday at Tim Horn’s house starting at 6:30.
The Eclipse is August 21, 2017.
Magen: Finishing up school as well, waiting to hear if she got into a different program for school.
