Nenana Wellness Coalition

The Nenana Wellness Coalition is an alliance of representatives from various organizations, government agencies, community groups and individuals that meets weekly to discuss, evaluate, coordinate, consolidate, celebrate, masticate and help implement plans for improving the wellness and quality of life in Nenana Alaska.
This week we had 6 participants; Mary Alexander, Derek Ketzler, Bonnie Reed, Natalie Chong, Magen Spencer and Mike Arena. We enjoyed homemade chili, assorted nuts, and cheese with crackers.

INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS:
Mike Arena joined us for our WIN meeting. He is currently new in the community and is in training at the radio station. Mike moved to Nenana from Georgia. He explains, that his wife is currently still in Georgia trying to sell their old place, but will be joining him here shortly. He is excited to familiarize himself with the community members and traditions.
WELLNESS THOUGHT: Today I choose life. Every morning when I wake up I can choose joy, happiness, negativity, pain… To feel the freedom that comes from being able to continue to make mistakes and choices – today I choose to feel life, not to deny my humanity but embrace it.

Magen: The annual addiction school will be in Anchorage May 1-3. There is a somatic therapy training by Megan Nigro Thursday April 27, 2017. Starts at 9am – 12pm at the Nenana Tribal Hall . There will be snacks provided.
Native Youth Olympics is in Anchorage April 26 – 29
The grand march for prom is April 29 at 5pm in the gym
Exhibitions of learning will be May 3 in the school between 5pm – 7pm
Spring concert is May 17 at 6:30
Graduation for high school is May 21
Bonnie: The grand march for prom is April 29 at 5pm in the gym, after the grand march the students will head to Clear Air Force Base where a dinner is provided and the dance.
Mary: The Neda Lord Center is rehabbing 4 of the rooms. They rooms are getting completely redone, they will have brand new carpet, appliances, etc. There has been some inquiries in the rooms already. If anyone is interested in the rooms, you can fill out the application through Interior Regional Housing Association in Fairbanks.
Natalie: There is phlight club May 5 – May 6. The k-2nd student need to have at least one anchor per student to attend, but 3rd – 8th grade student can have one anchor for two students. The event starts at 5 and will end the following day at noon. There is tons of different fun activities for all ages to enjoy.
Mike: No announcements or updates.
