Nenana Wellness Coalition

The Nenana Wellness Coalition is an alliance of representatives from various organizations, government agencies, community groups and individuals that meets weekly to discuss, evaluate, coordinate, consolidate, celebrate, masticate and help implement plans for improving the wellness and quality of life in Nenana Alaska.
We had 6 participants today, Laura Hokenson, Derek Ketzler, Magen Spencer, Bonnie Reed, Mary Alexander and Natalie Chong. We enjoyed a lovely meal of portobello stuffed ravioli and mixed vegetables.

Hannah Filardi popped by and announced the Coffee House performance night will be held at the Nenana Pitt, February 18, 2017, at 7:00 pm. She also dropped off flyers for the Coffee House and the Young American Performance Group coming to Nenana.
The Unstoppables, a living center led youth group, is wanting to help clean up the recyclables by the Nenana Native Council.
The freecycle is going to be March 24, 2017, at the Civic Center at 5:30 pm. The freecycle is an opportunity to give reusable items away to members of the community. However, if your items are not taken, you must take them back with you when you leave. This event will be a potluck, so please feel free to bring a dish.
Health Fair is still working on the tweaks of scheduling classes walking through at the school. They are in contact with the school administration. The health fair meeting is tomorrow, February 15, 2017, at 10:00 am at Jeannie Bennet house.
WELLNESS THOUGHT: All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.

Magen: Still working on the Lead On project with the youth. They have been trying to narrow down a date and time for the Choose Respect walk and potluck. They have partnered up with Maryellen and the People In Need of Knowledge youth group. The next meeting is February 15, 2017, at 3:00 pm in Javier’s classroom.
Derek: The Tribal Workforce Development Specialist position is officially closed, they are hoping to have the position filled this Friday. The next Nenana Native Council meeting is February 21, 2017, at 6:30 pm.
– City Council meeting is February 09, 2017 at the senior center at 6:30 pm.
– The Annual Senior Center is meeting at the Senior Center February 15, 2017, at 12:00
– Presidents Day is February 20, 2017, the City Office, Railbelt Mental Health and Addictions, and Post Office will be closed.
– Home Basketball Game against the Tri-Valley Warriors is February 21, 2017
– Home Basketball Game against Effie Kokrine February 28, 2017
– Beading Class at the Nenana City Public Library is on Wednesday at 5:00 pm
Mary: Hockey week is this week! Mary and her family will be busy attending the hockey events in Fairbanks. The Meda Lord Center is doing well. If anyone is wanting to apply for housing there, contact IRHA for their application.
Natalie: Natalie is trying to find a spot to get wood to donate to elders. She is trying to contact Donald Charlie to try and narrow down a place. The next Anchor Café is February 21, 2017, in Mindy Jacobsen’s room at 3:20 pm.
Laura: Laura and her family went down to a wedding in Wisconsin. She states they had a good time, despite the cold weather. Head start is having a potluck at 5:00 pm for the kids and their families.
