The Nenana Wellness Coalition is an alliance of representatives from various organizations, government agencies, community groups and individuals that meets weekly to discuss, evaluate, coordinate, consolidate, celebrate, masticate and help implement plans for improving the wellness and quality of life in Nenana Alaska.
We had 6 participants today: Bonnie Reed, Kat McElroy, Ed Herrgard, Harriett Borst, Jeannie Bennett and Tim Horn.
We enjoyed shredded beef and cheese enchiladas , mixed green salad, Ritz crackers with sliced cheese and mixed raisins and pecans for lunch.

INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS: No new guests today.
Nenana Emergency Services: Kat McElroy said that our Fire Chief, Joe Forness, who is an EMT-III and a certified EMS instructor, is offering EMT-I training in May. As always our squad makes do with a small group of dedicated volunteers. Joe is willing to do an ETT training as well, if there are people who would like to train into that basic level of EMS care. Joe is willing to waive instruction fees for anyone able to take/pass the training, if they in turn are willing to commit to volunteering to be on the squad. It is a terrific opportunity for service work.
Nenana EMS typically responds to two to three 911 calls on an average week. About half of our calls result in transport to Fairbanks for further medical attention. Sometimes we respond to motor vehicle accidents that have multiple victims. There is always a need for trained responders. Nenana EMS has mutual aid agreements with Anderson and Healy, our service area is large. We respond to a wide variety of emergencies: medical, search and rescue, fire, accidents.
Kat urges everyone to share this information with any resident of our area who may be interested in an opportunity to give back to our community, working alongside a dedicated cadre of volunteers who provide vital services for our people. Anyone interested in finding out more about this should contact Joe Forness.
WELLNESS THOUGHT: “We are responsible for the condition of the Earth. We are the ones who are responsible and we can change that. If we wake up, it is possible to change the energy. It is possible to change everything.”
