SPEAKERS/TOPICS:
Phlight Club/Phlight Camp: Natalie said that the next Phlight Club/Camp will be held February 19, starting at 5 PM and will run through Noon on Sunday, February 21st. Natalie and Katie Stone will work with the younger students doing Phlight Camp while Derek Peterson will run the Phlight Club activities with the upper division students. The students in Phlight Camp are encouraged to bring parents with them for the overnight. This will be by application and posters and applications will be forthcoming.
Natalie also said that she will be starting a student newsletter. This activity will take place Monday afternoons right after school and is being run as part of the after school program. Natalie will be using the Lucid Presss.com word processing program. She is soliciting student artwork, photographs, essays, interviews, etc. for content.

Nenana Health Fair: This will be our tenth annual Health Fair and is scheduled for April 2nd at the Civic Center. Jeannie Bennett and Tim Horn have had their first planning meeting this week. They have identified a list of potential donors for door prizes. They will be using the RMHA button machine to make slogan buttons. Maryellen located the button making equipment is down in the Healy office. She mentioned that the program for making the images for the buttons is on Nikki’s computer down there so we will need to coordinate with her. Begging letters have been generated.
Nenana Health Challenge: The latest Health Challenge will begin January 27th. There are two levels: six week or eight week. Anyone interested in developing healthier diet and exercise routines for themselves is encouraged to check this out and give it a try. Participants are only competing against themselves. There is a $25.00 for the shorter or $30.00 for the longer buy-in fee and there are prizes for those who demonstrate the greatest improvement.
Amie is also interested in preparing a presentation exploring the science of the influence of nutrition and activity on brain function and academic performance. She would like to present this to WIN and then present it to the school board towards her goal of encouraging the school to use some of the STEM grant funds to implement healthier eating and exercise programs for our students. She said the idea began for her when she was reading the book Spark, by John Jay Raity.
