July 14, 2015
The Nenana Wellness Coalition is an alliance of representatives from various organizations, government agencies, community groups and individuals that meets weekly to discuss, evaluate, coordinate, consolidate, celebrate and help implement plans for improving the wellness and quality of life in Nenana Alaska.
We had five participants this week, including: Kat & Leon McElroy, Bonnie Reed, Virginia Young, and David Poppe. We enjoyed beef/beet borscht, carrot and cabbage salad, sliced cheeses with Ritz crackers and pecans with raisins for lunch.
WELCOME followed by the READING OF MISSION STATEMENT: By this week’s chairperson, Bonnie Reed.
SPIRITUAL MOMENT: Lead by Virginia YOung
PRESENTATION OF AGENDA AND CALL FOR MODIFICATIONS: No changes to the agenda as presented.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Posted on the WIN link at http://www.railbelt.org and submitted electronically to the WIN e-list. Several corrections regarding spelling.
INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS: No new guests this week.
Envisioning Wellness: Paul Verhagan is scheduled to present on Emergency Preparedness August 4th.
WELLNESS THOUGHT: We may not have it all together, but together we have it all!
David: He, Steven and Leon have put up over 400 square bales of nice green hay from the airstrip the past several days. It is nice sweet green hay and the cows are very pleased with it. He has pigs due to start farrowing tomorrow and has moved them out on pasture where he has enlarged their living area.
Nenana EMS are on reduced staff due to other commitments by volunteers but they continue to average at least one call a day.
Kat: Phil Hokenson will be at the Anderson city office until 5 PM today to provide information to veterans regarding resources and services available to them.
Railbelt Mental Health & Addictions has received their CARF accreditation certificate, valid thru June, 2018.
Virginia: Our first Saturday Garden Market went well this weekend with six vendors, a small selection of fruits and vegetables and a fair turnout of customers. Hours will be changed to 10 AM- 2 PM.
They had a peony Growers meeting. All the peonies in Alaska came early this year which caused market prices to drop somewhat, but growers remain optimistic. A retail market for our local peonies in the Fairbanks area needs to be developed.
Bonnie: A Celebration of Life for Vern Weiss will take place Thursday, 7-16-15, starting at 6 PM, at the Senior Center.
