Nenana Wellness Coalition

The Nenana Wellness Coalition is an alliance of representatives from various organizations, government agencies, community groups and individuals that meets weekly to discuss, evaluate, coordinate, consolidate, masticate, celebrate, and help implement plans for improving the wellness and quality of life in Nenana Alaska.
There were 11 in attendance today, including: Kat McElroy, Jessica Durtsche, Bonnie Reed, Tim Horn, Jeannie Bennett, Virginia Young, Evelyn, Johnny and Ephraim Verhagen, and David Poppe. We enjoyed beef and tomato pasta casserole, mixed green salad, Ritz crackers with sliced cheese and raisins & pecans for lunch.
WELCOME followed by the READING OF MISSION STATEMENT, by this week’s chair-person: Tim Horn
PRAYER was led by Jeannie Bennett, followed by the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIENCE.
PRESENTATION OF AGENDA AND CALL FOR MODIFICATIONS: There were no additions to the agenda.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Posted on the WIN link at http://www.railbelt.org and submitted electronically to the WIN e-list.
INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS: No new guests today.
We had announcements first before viewing the second half of The Bully Project video.
Virginia: She has a rental house available, two bedrooms, one bath, $625.00 per month plus utilities, on HUD Row.
David: Mid-State Meats called, they have finished cutting our beef. It was USDA inspected and so can be offered for retail sale. It was all grass fed, no grain, no antibiotics, steroids or growth hormones.
Kat: Will not be here next week, will be in Anchorage, so someone else will need to do food and minutes.
Jessica: Also will not be here next week, due to annual Christmas party.
Bonnie: Community Christmas Dinner and Bazaar at the school Wednesday, 5 PM; Winter Concert to follow afterwards at 6:30.
Monday, 12-16, there will be line-dancing at the Civic Center, at 7 PM.
December 19 there will be early release at NCPS and school is closed for winter break; classes resume January 6, 2014.
There will be caroling December 22.
Santa will be at the Civic Center December 23.
December 29th will be the monthly musical services at Assembly of God church; bring your instruments.
Jeannie: Thanks to everyone that helped with the fund-raising efforts for the Fire Department at the Christmas Bazaar this weekend.
Evelyn: The Nativity Play will be Friday the 13th, 6 PM, at the Civic Center. Bring your favorite pot luck dish and the recipe.
The Bully Project: David set up the DVD-player so we could view the second half of The Bully Project DVD.

The community dinner to present information about the bully project will be Friday, January 17, time and place TBD.
Due to time constraints we were no able to have any meaningful discussion regarding the video which depicted the aftermath of one teen’s suicide due to bullying, several other teens experiences with ongoing bullying and adult efforts to change the bully climate in their schools and communities.
WELLNESS THOUGHT: The forgiving state of mind is a magnetic power for attracting good. No good thing can be withheld from the forgiving state of mind.
