Nenana Wellness Coalition

The Nenana Wellness Coalition is an alliance of representatives from various organizations, government agencies, community groups and individuals that meets weekly to discuss, evaluate, coordinate, consolidate, celebrate and help implement plans for improving the wellness and quality of life in Nenana Alaska.
We had 13 participants today, including: Kat and Leon McElroy, Jeannie Bennet, Rebecca, Ethan, Aerin, Emily and Bill Troxel, Virginia Young, Emil Hugny Tim Horn and Shelly and, Bonnie Reed. We enjoyed moose/zucchini soup, mixed green salad, fresh yoghurt cheese, Ritz & Triscuit crackers with sliced cheese, raisins and nuts and blueberry cake for lunch .
WELCOME followed by the READING OF MISSION STATEMENT: By this week’s chairperson, Rebecca Troxel.
PRAYER was lead by Bonnie Reed, followed by the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIENCE.
PRESENTATION OF AGENDA AND CALL FOR MODIFICATIONS: No modifications today.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes posted on the WIN link at www.railbelt.com and approved as submitted electronically to the WIN email list with one correction.
INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS: Bonnie Reed introduced her daughter, Shelly Reed, who was welcomed back from previous visits.
It was agreed by consensus to have an abbreviated meeting today to allow people to attend the funeral services for Ashley Hecox at 1 PM.
Dancing In The Streets: The annual National Recovery Month celebration: Dancing In The Streets is planned for Friday, September 7th. With a parade at 4:40 PM, down the main street of Nenana, dinner will be at the Civic Center, 5 PM., and dancing and entertainment after we dine. Volunteers are always needed to help make this event a success; Maryellen is organizing the parade, Brianna is in charge of invitations and entertainment, Mike Anderson will be in charge of food.
Envisioning Wellness: Due to unexpe3cted death and the funeral, Tim Horn has not confirmed the August 14th date for Reverend Tom Moore to speak with us about the Assembly of God Church.

Jeannie: Nenana will be hosting a Gospel Music Fest next summer the weekend after Fourth of July.
John Colvert’s daughter is requesting assistance from the community and Project Overhaul in clearing his house before his Celebration of Life.
Jeannie is coordinating with Mayor of the Denali Borough, Dave Talerico, to get donated tonnage for disposal of trash collected by Project Overhaul volunteers.
Rebecca: The city library will host an ice cream social Wednesday at 2 PM. Friday and Saturday at the library they will be silk-screening tee shirts.
Leon: Just turned 17 while visiting family in Houston. It was hot down there, a hundred and ten degrees one day. He is applying to the Alaska Military Youth Academy.
Virginia: Will be gone picking blueberries this weekend and then attending the Peony Growers Conference next weekend in Palmer.
Kat: David is in Iowa attending his mother’s funeral, returning August 5th. She and Leon are holding down the fort in his absence.
There are wood chips at the GVEA office out on the highway, free for the taking, from the trees they brushed out around town.
Bonnie: August 4th will be a Celebration of Life for John Colvert; burial at 1 PM up on the hull and a gathering to follow at his home.
There will be a Joint Meeting for the City Assembly, School Board and Nenana Native Council, Thursday night, 6:30 PM.
Also, Thursday night, a fireside musicale, at Bonnie’s, starting at 7.
