The Nenana Wellness Coalition is an alliance of representatives from various organizations, government agencies, community groups and individuals that meets weekly to discuss, evaluate, coordinate, consolidate, celebrate and help implement plans for improving the wellness and quality of life in Nenana Alaska.
There were 14 participants today, including: Kat and Leon McElroy, David Poppe, Mary & Wes Alexander, Harriet Borst, Brian & Gabrielle Blair, Bonnie Reed, Tim Horn, Rebecca, Bill & Emily Troxel and Jeannie Bennet. We enjoyed white bean with ham soup, carrot/blueberry salad, Ritz crackers with sliced cheese and raisins and pecans for lunch.
WELCOME followed by the READING OF MISSION STATEMENT: By this week’s chairperson, Tim Horn.
PRAYER: Was lead by Rebecca Troxel, followed by the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIENCE.
PRESENTATION OF AGENDA AND CALL FOR MODIFICATIONS: There was one modification to the agenda.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes were posted to the WIN e-list with no suggestions for corrections or modifications.

Nenana Blood Drive: The Blood Drive will be held a week from tomorrow, Wednesday, January 11, from 10 AM through 2 PM, at the gym at NCPS. Tim received the posters from the Blood Bank in Fairbanks which she dispersed to various WIN members to be placed about town. People wishing to donate blood need to call Susan Kaufman at the school, 832-5464, to make an appointment. Youth over the age of 16 may donate blood but need to have a signed parental consent. All donors need to present a photo ID at the time of their blood being taken..
Morsels In Motion: The next food boxes will be assembled and delivered January 21/22. Food will be picked upon the 21st from Fairbanks and brought to the Episcopalian Parish Hall. Boxes will be assembled and distributed the next day. Volunteers are needed and will be needed the third Saturday/Sunday of each month.
Nenana Health Fair: Kat will ask Laura if RMHA will be able to donate for the food, also what is the balance in our Health Fair slush fund. Rebecca will contact Phyllis at Alaska Health Fair, Inc, up in Fairbanks and will go online to get our fair registered. Everyone wishing to be part of the planning process should contact Rebecca. There is a site coordinator training in Fairbanks February 24.

Harriet: Will be gone January 25th to attend her great-grandson’s wedding.
Wes: Reports there was a real good turnout for the New Year’s Eve supper and live music at Meda Lord Center as well as later at the tribal hall. The live music continued at the tribal; hall and then there was native dancing, ending with fireworks at midnight.
Mary:School Board will be doing self-evaluations on Wednesday night, open to the public, starting 5:30, in the Pit. They will have a board ethics training during the day. Lastly, her Yoga DVD’s have gone missing from the common room at Meda Lord; anyone knowing their whereabouts please let her know.
Leon: Is joining the volunteer fire department.
Brian: Their chicken coop is staying warm and 15 chickens are doing well despite this cold weather. They are laying 8-10 eggs a day.
Rebecca: It is nice right now to have nothing to do!
Bill: AWANA resumes January 9th. They will meet at the Parish Hall since Ice Classic will be using the Civic Center to assemble the red cans.
Bonnie: there will be a community lunch next Tuesday at the school. WE WILL HAVE OUR WIN MEETING AT THE SCHOOL. (This will be a good opportunity to talk up the blood drive being held at the school the following day!)
Kat: Will be gone January 17-19 to attend the Certification Commission board meeting in Anchorage. Rebecca has volunteered to prepare lunch. Thank you Rebecca!
The public nurse will be in Nenana that day and will be attending WIN.
David: Shared some tales from the farm including one A.M. milking last night!
Jeannie: May need to reschedule the Freecycle from Friday the 13th due to illness in the family. She will let us know.
Tim: The school will host a Coffee House this Friday evening with lively student entertainment.
Basketball games: Against Monroe in Fairbanks Saturday starting at 5 PM. at Effie Kokrine the 13th and Hutchinson the 14th, subject to change.
Book Club meets on the 20th, to discuss both The Screwtape Letters and E=MC 2.
